Getting more out of your Amazon Echo
Using your voice to control your house used to be the stuff of sci-fi cartoons, but now talking to our phones, cars and homes seems quite commonplace. We can already do so much with Alexa, controlling our plugs, lights or ordering our food, that we wanted to do something for our customers.
At EDF Energy’s innovation accelerator Blue Lab we’ve been exploring how to adapt the Amazon Alexa technology for our customers, and have worked closely with Amazon to develop the first Alexa skill tailored to meet the needs of our energy customers. This collaboration with Amazon is part of our commitment to making energy easy and putting customers in control through connected home technologies and other innovative products and services.
It's incredibly easy to setup and use, and once connected, you will be able to ask Alexa details about your account and get correct and detailed information, whenever you want it, making it easier to stay on top of your energy usage and understand it better.
You will be able to ask Alexa:
- Check your account balance
- When is your next payments date
- Submit a meter reading
- Verify when your current tariff will end
Getting started is very simple.
Step 1. Purchase and setup your new Amazon Echo device.
Step 2. Register for and EDF Energy MyAccount. If you haven't done so already, you are already missing out. Signing up is pretty simple as you'll only need your account number and email address for your EDF Energy account.
Step 3. Download the Alexa App. Once downloaded search for "EDF Energy" and when that appears tap "Enable." Alternatively, you can just ask Alexa to enable to the EDF Energy skill
Once completed you can now start asking Alexa about your EDF Energy account.
